Many people volunteer at our soup kitchen from 15 to maybe 100. We appreciate everyone who helps.

Many new volunteers should take a lesson from the hard work and great work ethic that some of our older volunteers demonstrate.

El Caldito serves everyone who shows up – the number of meals we serve is determined only by the number of people who come to eat every day.The steady increase in meals served, shown here for the last three years, is a clear indication that the number of people needing food is increasing dramatically.

December 2011 we served just over 8000 clients.Thanks to steady and continuing community support, contributions of food and funds have enabled El Caldito to keep up with the demand.

Friday’s crew was busy making a fresh green tossed salad, baking raisin and oatmeal cookies and steaming broccoli on top of the stove. We are so blessed to receive all the donations we get. These monetary donations allow us to buy fresh produce to use for our noontime meals.

Christmas at El Caldito

Christmas day at El Caldito was a busy one.

Slicing the hams.

Preparing the vegetables.

Cutting the celery.

Volunteers began arriving early in the morning to slice the hams, prepare the vegetables and cut the fruit. Later on the tables were set and the desserts put out. Santa and his elves arrived right on schedule.

At noon we were all ready for the festivities of the afternoon. The doors were opened and we served about 500 children and adults.

Grandsons help with gifts for Christmas!

Donna's Grandsons begin to decorate bags for Christmas!

Donna’s Grandsons, Garrett, Andrew and Ryan decorated bags with a Christmas motif. Then they filled the bags with silver grass and a gift card. These bags will be handed out to teenagers on Christmas at El Caldito.

DECEMBER the Month of DONATIONS!!!

El Caldito Soup Kitchen has been receiving donations all month. The pantry is stocked, the freezers are full and the refrigerators are packed. Thanks to individuals, churches, scouts, students, varying organizations and businesses we will be able to bring Christmas Cheer, a hot meal, gifts from Santa and Friendship to all who join us on Christmas!!! This truly has been the Season of Giving!!!

Shortly after this delivery was made, in came a pick-up truck with older students. Once again the Las Cruces FFA conducted their annual canned food drive. This is their 11th year collecting cans.

NM Army National Guard Surprises El Caldito

Friday December 9, 2011, El Caldito Soup Kitchen was surprised by Joe Chavez and Santiago Alarcon representing NM Army National Guard 1-200 Battalion by delivering to us cases of food . We received cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce canned goods, soup mix and other items.

Help Make Christmas Special!

El Caldito Needs Hams, for our Christmas Dinner and Apples, Oranges, Nuts, and Candy for our Christmas Goodie Bags. You may drop off items at our kitchen between the hours of 8AM and 1 PM Monday through Friday and Sunday. We are located at 999 W. Amador on the campus of the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope.

CHRISTMAS ELVES HELP EL CALDITO

Good Workers

El Caldito has been buzzing with helpers. Our Special Events Coordinator, Becky McNair has had some help from Girl Scout Troop 308. Girls from kindergarten to second grade and their parents have spent several Saturdays at our kitchen wrapping plastic knives, forks and spoons in Christmas napkins. In fact they have wrapped 2000+ sets. We have been using them this month and will be well prepared to feed many people on Christmas Day.

Wrapping knives, forks and spoons is fun.

Elves have been calling our kitchen and it looks like we’ll have plenty of help preparing and serving Christmas Dinner. El Caldito Board of Directors is very thankful for the extra help we are receiving.
